Foods with the French Origin

Thousands of great dishes are served on restaurant menus all over the world. It would not be surprising if people have mistaken impression of the origin of a particular dish. Many dishes that we think come from a particular country either does not originate in the country with which the dish is usually associated or is served in an entirely different manner. Many dishes that we believe are national dish in certain places are rarely eaten there. Here are some foods with French origin that will let you know where their origin can be traced back to.

The only difference is that croissants consist of additional ingredients that add to the taste such as sugar, milk, butter and eggs. The dough is coated with butter. It is then rolled and folded prior to rolling on sheet. Croissants share a resemblance to a puffed pastries upon baking. Frozen croissants have become immensely popular these days all over the world as they eliminate all the hassles involved in making the best dough needed for making fluffy croissants.

This is thin pancake made from either buckwheat or wheat flour. It originated in Brittany and filled with different fillings that can be savory or sweet. These are usually served with cider. Crepes are usually served as a dessert or for breakfast. Savory filled crepes are eaten for dinner or lunch. The sweet fillings comprise of maple syrup, custard, whipped cream, and sugar. The savory fillings consist of mushrooms, eggs, cheese, ham and other products.

This is a long thin loaf of French bread. There is no French meal that is complete without Baguettes. This is one of the popular French bread which is made according to standard diameter and length. The diameter is about 2 to 2.5 inches and the length is 26 inches. This loaf is made from lean dough which has been defined by the French law. These are served with cheese and frequently used with sandwiches. These are as well dunked in hot chocolate or coffee.

These are more or less sweet tea cakes which are shaped like a scallop shell. These were made famous by the author Proust. These sponge cakes are prepared with sugar, almonds, eggs and flour. These are small and baked from cake batter. These do not require any special cooking equipment during preparation. A madeleine traditionally comprises of almonds that have been finely ground.

These are treats made from dough consists of flour, butter, eggs and water. This is a log shaped pastry filled with pastry cream and comes with chocolate topping. It is baked until it turns crisp. Once the pastry is cooled, the filling is added into the cylindrical shaped pastry and topped with icing. This delicacy originated in France and is served on menus of several restaurants all over the world.
